I had to write a speech on my speech and debate class, i chose a theme of dreams. To cut a long the story shot i was crying the whole my speech. I still cant believe that i have been here already for 3 month...And now from the beginning :
Reaching for the stars
Raise your
hand if you have a dream! I am sure that everybody has a great dream! The dream
that makes you wake up in the morning, move ahead and work hard. Of course, I
am not an exception. Honestly to say, since my childhood I have been dreaming
about travelling. That’s why I learned foreign languages at school .But one day
my dream became more accurate. It happened 3 years ago, when I heard about
exchange program “Flex”. Since that moment I was anxious about becoming an
exchange and going to the U.S.A. I wanted to open a new world of another
country and culture; to extend horizons and develop in different areas. This
idea became my real goal, so went to the 1st tour of the contest.
Firstly, I had to pass the test. Secondly, I had to write 3 essays and finally
to have an interview. Every tour was very stressful for me. But eventually I
passed all three stages! Afterwards I had to wait 6 months for the results.
Every day I thought about this, dreamt and built castles in the air.
Unfortunately I received a refusal letter. I can’t even express how
disappointed I was! Nevertheless I didn’t want to give up on my dream. Moreover
I started to study more as decided to try again next year. I thought that my
level of English wasn't so high to win. At that moment I made very difficult
decision that changed my life. I decided to change to a school which specialized
in English, before I had been going to math gymnasium. I had to leave all my
friends, teachers and the life I used to behind. To tell you the truth, it
wasn’t easy as I had authority at my previous school. Now I can surely say that
I don’t regret it. I found many new
friends and was selected in the school parliament. So I tried to take part in
contest one more time. I was really inspired as I did many things to improve my
knowledge. However fame and God prepared another fortune for me. Passed again
all three stages, waiting for 6 month…I didn’t become a finalist oh the
program. I felt awful… I didn’t understand why, what wr
ong with me. Now you
probably think that I retreated from my dream? NO! I still believed! I was
crying but hope was still alive! It was my 3rd and last
attempt. 3 years – 1 dream. I was very
calm and cynical. Everything repeated again and again. YES, I passed 3 stages
again and let everything go. I lived real life as everybody had told me before.
One day the phone rang …I saw unfamiliar number. What was said, I don’t remember: I was crying and jumping I
was happy!!!!!As you understand this call was from American counsels. I was
going to go to the U.S. for the whole year! I was very sick that day so I
thought that I completely lost my mind and the call was a bad joke of extremely
high temperature. I couldn’t believe!
Even now
standing in the class of American high school I can’t believe it…Maybe
sometimes I don’t understand, feel stupid or uncomfortable. Nevertheless I am
the happiest person in this world as my dream came true! 3 long years I have
been chasing it.
Never stop
dream and believe no matter what other people say! Be strong, persistence and purposeful.
Never give up on your goals. Don’t be scared of mistakes and changes! You can reach for the stars, but firstly you
have to stretch your hands!
